SERI is the shared trademark of a decentralised virtual network of research institutes and individual researchers. The name is owned by the "Verein zur Förderung eines Sustainable Europe Research Institute", a legal association registered in Vienna. The association grants the right to use the name and the logo of SERI based on a contractual agreement. The SERI network was established in autumn 1999.
Currently the network consists of the following partners:

The society "Verein zur Förderung eines Sustainable Europe Institutes" was founded in 1999. It works as an information platform for its members and the researchers of the network and supports scientific work on the field of sustainable development. It helps to communicate topics on sustainability and actual research results to a broader interested public. Currently the society has approximately 70 members from all over Europe. It runs the website and the InfoMail of SERI.

The Ltd. - so far being the company with the highest turn-over and the most employees in the network - is among Austria’s leading institutes in support of sustainable development. Our projects facilitate the solution of problems at the intersection of the economy, society and the environment in ways that reflect ecological, economic and social responsibility. The limited company was founded in 2004 and took over the company "SERI - Dr. Friedrich Hinterberger" and all its employees and projects.

SERI Germany e.V.
The Sustainable Europe Research Institute Germany e.V. was established in 2005. It is registered according to the German law as a non-profit association. The focus is on German research projects towards sustainability as well as on research on sustainable consumption. So far it combines the independent SERI research units SERI Overath and SERI Cologne.
